| Effective May 1, 2008: Students will be required to show their MSC ID card to obtain information about their financial aid account. This is a security measure to ensure privacy of our students. REMEMBER: BANNER Web is always available and we have several computers in our office for student use. |
MSC is able to offer a significant number of students financial assistance. We realize that despite scholarship assistance and the reasonable cost of a Macon State education, you and/or your family may not be able to provide the resources necessary to fund your college education. We hope that no student will fail to consider MSC due to financial reasons.
The Financial Aid Office at MSC is committed to helping you find ways to finance your education. Our staff can help you sort through various types of financial aid, including the Georgia HOPE programs and Federal Student Aid Programs.
Application Process:
- To receive consideration for Federal Financial Aid (Pell, SEOG, College Work-Study and/or Loans) you must complete a Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). This can be done electronically at http://www.fafsa.ed.gov.
- It takes about 2-3 weeks to receive the results. This time is shortened considerably if you sign the application electronically. All the instructions are located at the above website.
- Once MSC receives the results from your FAFSA, you may have to submit some additional documentation if your application is selected for verification. You will be notified of forms needed. Verification does lengthen the time to process a students' file; therefore, it is imperative that you respond immediately with the requested documentation.
- To apply for HOPE only you can complete the state HOPE application at http://www.gacollege411.org
- To apply for a loan: entering freshman, new transfer students, students who have never borrowed at MSC, and former MSC students must first complete a Stafford Loan request using the FASTChoice web link. Important: MSC students who received federal student loan funds in the previous school year (2007-2008) are not required to complete this process unless your lender is no longer processing loans. This includes the following lenders: Chase/Sallie Mae, Citizens, CLC, and Collegiate Loan.
- Once we have received all applicable information, our normal processing time is 4 to 6 weeks. During peak periods such as registration, processing may be longer. Therefore, it is imperative to start the process early to ensure that your funds will be available when fees are due.
